Shell Moulding
Shell Moulding uses sand to form the mould, however as the name suggests, instead of forming a multi-piece die, the mould is shell like in form.
Shell Moulding creates a contoured mould with almost uniform thickness, helping to better control cooling and create a highly accurate casting, with very thin wall thickness.
Although shell moulds are created using the Airset - or Resin Binder based manufacturing process, they are not to be confused with conventional Airset Moulds made in pattern boxes to produce conventional sand castings.
Shell moulding is a step beyond both Green Sand Casting, and Airset or Resin Bonded Sand Casting.
