forming-manufacturing-processes > Non-Ferrous Shell Moulding

This process encompasses the use of sand to form a mould, unlike sand casting where the external form of the mould is defined by the container in which it sits or was created, the external contours are a copy of the internal shape of the mould.

The mould is created by applying a uniform layer of sand to a pattern and setting the sand, as with Airset sand casting using a resin binder system.

This process category includes the production of Non-Ferrous Components by the Shell Moulding Casting Process.

Shell moulding is a step beyond both green sand casting, and Airset or resin bonded sand casting.
