Powder Forging

Powder Forging is a key and prominent process in Powder Metallurgy or PM, however it’s application is also wider ranging than metals with the pressing and forming of ceramics being commonplace.

Powder Forging involves the application of pressure to powdered material, confined in a die, producing components of varying complexity in shape dependent on; level of pressure, use or amount of heat in the Pressing Process and the complexity of the die.

The use of high pressure and heat in the forging of powdered materials can reduce the level of post processing require or eliminate it altogether. Components are often formed into their "green state", where they are classed as low strength pre-forms, these can then be processed by "Sintering", "Heat Treatment" and other processes to form the finished component with the required level of density
