Lost Foam Casting

This group of processes encompass the creation of a Polystyrene or Foam pre-form to create a Sand Mould into which molten metal is poured.

In Lost Foam Casting the preform is typically placed in a container and the container filled with sand mixed with a low strength binder.

The preform then remains in place whilst the molten metal is poured. Being almost entirely air - the Foam Melts and Evaporates, leaving the molten metal in the cavity the Foam previously occupied.

Both Ferrous and Non-Ferrous materials can be processed by Lost Foam Casting.
