Hot pre-form material is pressed or hammered in a single die or a set of progressively more detailed dies to create a hot forged, close tolerance die forging.

The forging force can be provided by any number of methods, including hydraulic press and drop or hammer forge. The common feature here is the closed die which imparts it’s shape on the hot material being forged.
