Photolithography is not a traditional machining process but more a microfabrication process. The process uses light to transfer a pattern from a photomask to a light sensitive chemical coating on a workpiece, the workpiece undergoes a series of chemical treatments which embed the pattern onto the material.

The process is commonly used on electronic circuit boards.
