This process involves the cutting of material using a punching tool on a Turret Punch to shear the material, leaving a profile of the required size.

The punching die is typically stationary, whilst the material is automatically moved around under the punching die, additionally most Turret Punching Machines hold a number of different Punches, therefore several profiles can be punched onto one sheet.
