Internal and External slots, keyways and splines are typically created using Linear Broaching. The toothed tool is pushed or pulled past the work piece to remove material. Each tooth increases in size and shape in a way which allows each tooth to cut a chip of the required dimensions.

Today, almost every conceivable type of form and material can be broached. Less complex geometry can be Broached using “Rotary Broaching”
