This process primarily involves the cutting of plate metal using a concentrated Flame that is CNC controlled – machines may be multi-head for increased production rate or just a single flame cutting head. However tube, pipe and section pieces can be cut if the part can be rotated.

The limiting factor with 2 Dimensional or 2 Axis cutting is the inability to "shape" or bevel the sides of the profile by design. Therefore, cut edges are "straight" within cutting tolerances, and finished profiles are flat.
