moulding-additive-manufacture > Vacuum Thermoforming
Vacuum Thermoforming is a very simple and common process, it is easily adapted and can be used to make prototype components as well as high volumes such as yoghurt pots.
Moulds can be made from wood, metal or even plastic.
The process involves heating a sheet of plastic that is clamped into position over the mould tool. Once the sheet has reached a pliable temperature a vacuum is applied, sucking the sheet round the mould tool. Once cooled, a burst of back pressure releases the formed sheet.
