moulding-additive-manufacture > Structural Foam Injection Moulding
This process involves the introduction of Gas or an Air Entraining Agent into the thermoplastic melt before injection into the mould tool.
The components produced have a dense outer skin, whilst the Inner structure is foam like in nature being a mix of thermoplastic and voids created by the gasses.
This process is not to be confused with gas assisted injection moulding, where gas is injected directly into the mould tool to create large, connected voids without the need for complex coring arrangements.
