Resin Transfer Moulding (RTM) is best suited for medium volume production. The process requires a males and female mould with a set cavity gap between their faces which the composite will fill. This cavity determines the composite thickness.

 

Like many other processes, the dry fibres are laid up into the female half of the mould, the male plug is then placed on top and clamped in position. Pressurised resin is injected into the mould using one or more entry ports. Some RTM techniques are performed at room temperature however to reduce cycle times, heated moulds are often used.
