moulding-additive-manufacture > Reinforced Reaction Injection Moulding
Reinforced Reaction Injection Moulding (RRIM) is a unique Composite Moulding technique although it follows the same principles as “Reaction Injection Moulding”. The main difference is loose fibres / flakes are added to the resin whilst it is in the pot.
Once the resin, catalyst and fibres have been placed in the pot together, they are drawn into a mixing chamber by a ‘mixing screw’, this mixes the 3 components thoroughly and forces them towards the die, where they are injected at the pressure created by the screw, resin mix and size of injection hole. The chemical reactions take place rapidly, meaning the process as a very fast cycle time.
