moulding-additive-manufacture > Spray Lay Up
Spray Lay Up is a relatively labour-intensive process. It is very similar to Hand Lay up apart from resin is sprayed onto the fibres as opposed to being applied by hand. It is more suited to larger components, such as tubs and sailing dinghies.
The process involves placing fibres into the mould by hand and applying the resin and catalyst through a spray gun, when the two liquids exit the gun a chemical reaction is triggered, and the curing cycle begins. Once the first layer of fibres is adequately wetted, additional layers of fibre can be added, and the wetting process can be performed again.
Core materials can also be added between layers of fibres to form a sandwich construction to provide extra stiffness if required.
