moulding-additive-manufacture > Compression Moulding
Compression Moulding is a high volume, high pressure plastic moulding process. Cycle times are short and the production rate is high, Compression Moulded parts are often found in the Automotive Industry. The process is suited to making high strength components with complex geometries.
The process itself is simple, a set quantity of preheated plastic is placed into a preheated female mould. A male mould is then used to plug the cavity and pressure is applied, forcing the plastic to spread, forming the component required. Heat and Pressure are maintained throughout the process until the component has cured.
