inspection-and-assembly-manufacturing-processes > Ultrasonic Inspection

The section encompasses all inspection methods where high frequency sound energy is used to assess a part.

Typically, Ultrasonic Inspection transmits a high frequency ultrasonic pulse through a part in the form of a wave. When there is a flaw in the part, some of the energy is reflected. This is captured and converted to an electronic signal, which highlights the size and location of the flaw.

Ultrasonic Inspection can be used to determine attributes such as dimensional measurements, material characteristics and flaws within a part.
