inspection-and-assembly-manufacturing-processes > Time of Flight Diffraction Inspection

This section encompasses the method of non-destructive ultrasonic testing focused on the detection of flaws within welds.

Time of Flight Diffraction relies on the ultrasonic sound that is transmitted through the part being diffracted when it encounters a defect. The ultrasonic wave is recorded and digitised to build up a cross-sectional view of the weld, with any diffracted sound waves highlighted on the resultant image. This highlights the size and severity of any irregularities in the weld.
