Coordinate Measurement encompasses the use of a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to accurately measure and evaluate the dimensions of a finished or semi-finished component.

Coordinate Measurement is typically carried out in a temperature-controlled environment, as the level of attainable accuracy can be influenced by slight changes in ambient temperature.

A CMM is not typically deployed as a 100% inspection process as it is labour intensive and can be expensive. A more typical use is to provide an Initial Sample Inspection Report (ISIR) or First-Off Inspection Report to determine whether a process is within control limits.
