finishing-and-treatment-manufacturing-processes > Thermal Spraying
Thermal Spraying encompasses the melting and projection of a coating compound onto a substrate (component to be coated) surface.
Specific variations of this process that are included in this category are:
• High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) Spraying
• Plasma Arc Spraying
• Electric Arc Spraying
The various material forms prior to melting and spraying are also covered within this process category, which commonly include wire or powder form.
Sometimes this process is referred to as Metal Spraying, because of its extensive use of metal materials to be sprayed. However, the coating compounds can be Metal Alloy or Ceramic Metals, for example metal oxides.
Materials and applications include:
• Molybdenum - Increased wear resistance & Lubricity
• Copper, Nickel & Bronzes - Repair and Restoration
• Chromium Carbide - Increased Corrosion Resistance
• Zirconia - Thermal Barrier Creation
• Zinc & Zinc Alloy - Increased Corrosion Resistance
