finishing-and-treatment-manufacturing-processes > Nitriding
Nitriding typically involves using ammonia gas in a furnace with a controlled atmosphere to drive nitrogen into the surface of the component.
Nitriding can also be performed in a salt bath - this is commercially known as Tufftriding.
This process category includes only the above methods of nitriding; Salt Bath "Tufftriding" and Controlled Atmosphere Furnace Nitriding.
There are alternative forms of Nitriding, see "Plasma Nitriding".
