finishing-and-treatment-manufacturing-processes > Metal Shot Peening
This process involves the use of small metal spheres, known as ‘shot’, propelled at the surface of a component with the intention of inducing compressive stresses.
Metal Shot Peening is popular in the automotive and aerospace industry, with components including crankshafts, gears, springs and turbines being shot peened to increase fatigue life and reduce corrosion.
All shot size, weight and velocity are catered for within this process category. This category is limited to "Metal Shot". For shot peening with Ceramic or Glass media see "Glass & Ceramic Bead Peening".
