Digital Printing covers a range of different printing processes which all share one similarity – the print is produced directly from a computer file.
The main advantage of Digital Printing is that unlike alternative printing processes, there is no need for a printing plate. This significantly reduces setup cost and time, making Digital Printing preferable for smaller quantity requirements. At higher volumes, the price per copy will decrease for Digital Printing, however the process is typically more expensive per print compared with alternative printing processes when setup costs are excluded.
Digital Printing processes include inkjet printing, laser printing and thermal printing among others. This process does lose some of the fine-detailed image quality compared with alternative printing processes, however the quality of Digital Printing is improving as technology continues to develop.
