finishing-and-treatment-manufacturing-processes > Cylindrical Lapping
Cylindrical Lapping is a polishing process which removes material from either the internal, external or both surfaces to create an improved surface finish.
The procedure is a two-motion process (rotation and reciprocation) to gradually remove material a few microns at a time. This abrasive machining process utilises a lapping tool and an abrasive compound to achieve the desired results.
Cylindrical Lapping allows for high accuracy results, with roundness values of 0.14µm, straightness values of 0.28µm and a surface finish of 0.025Ra Microns all being achievable.
