Cadmium Plating applies a layer of cadmium onto a metal to provide a coating which improves the corrosion resistance.

The most common way to perform Cadmium Plating is electroplating, however methods including mechanical plating and vacuum & ion deposition are available.

Cadmium is a soft metal, however it is very good in salt water environments, having the ability to resist bacteria and mould growth. Additionally, it provides an exceptional bonding surface and is an excellent natural lubricant, which helps to prevent galling.

Applications where Cadmium Plating is used include marine and aerospace applications, as well as for disc brakes and door latches in automotive applications.
